Ellyse Perry, the standout all-rounder for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), is dominating the WPL 2024 season. She has single-handedly led the RCB Women’s team to the final of the tournament.
Ellyse Perry showcased an extraordinary display of power-hitting during the match against UP Warriorz at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on March 4, leaving the crowd in sheer amazement. Her aggressive innings, scoring 58 runs off just 37 balls, not only unsettled the opposition bowlers but also led to an unexpected incident – one of her towering sixes shattered the window of a TATA Punch.ev car.
In a remarkable turn of events, Ellyse Perry made history by becoming the first batter, in either men’s IPL or WPL, to completely shatter a car window with a sixer. This incident added a unique flavor to her already stellar performance in the tournament.
Following Perry’s stellar contribution in guiding RCB to the WPL final, defeating defending champions Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator, TATA, the sponsor, decided to commemorate the memorable moment. They presented Perry with the shattered glass as a token of appreciation.
During the celebrations at the Arun Jaitley Stadium after RCB’s thrilling win over Harmanpreet Kaur’s team, a TATA representative handed Perry a framed display containing the glued-together pieces of the shattered glass. Perry was visibly delighted, wearing a huge smile as she received this special and unique award, acknowledging the memorable incident that had occurred during her remarkable innings.
Their journey to the final began with a crucial league match against the same team, which propelled them into the knockout stage with Smriti Mandhana leading the charge. Now, in the summit clash against the Delhi Capitals, RCB is eyeing the title after securing the top spot in the league stage.
Ellyse Perry has been the star of the show with consecutive outstanding performances against the defending champions, the Mumbai Indians. First, she delivered a stunning six-wicket haul in the league match. Then, in the Eliminator, she showcased her all-round skills by scoring 66 runs and dismissing MI opener Yastika Bhatia with her bowling prowess.
