Pakistan women’s team clinched a six-run victory in the third T20I match against South Africa on Monday, relying on their well-organized bowling to complete a clean sweep of the three-game series.
The Pakistan women’s team made history by recording a comprehensive victory when South Africa made their first-ever visit to the country. When South Africa responded to Pakistan’s modest score of 150/5 in 20 overs, Laura Wolvaardt led the charge with a strong performance. She struck nine boundaries during her innings, partnering with Tazmin Brits (18) for an opening 33-run stand and later combining with Sune Luus (13) for a 49-run partnership for the third wicket. However, the Pakistan bowlers choked South Africa’s batters, reducing them to just 144/5 in 20 overs.
Laura Wolvaardt, eventually named Player of the Series, maintained her momentum, achieving a fast half-century in 37 balls before being caught by substitute fielder Fatima Sana for 72. Nadine de Klerk was South Africa’s second-highest scorer with an undefeated 20. Sadia Iqbal, with figures of 2-25, and Nashra Sandhu, with 2-16, were Pakistan’s best bowlers.
In the earlier innings, the hosts rallied on key contributions from opener Sidra Ameen (39), Bismah Mahroof (39), and captain Nida Dar (36) to achieve a total of 150/5 after being invited to bat first. They formed key partnerships, with Sidra and fellow opener Shawaal Zulfiqar putting on 41 runs for the first wicket, Sidra and Bismah adding 49 runs for the second, and Bismah and Nida providing 49 runs for the third wicket. Pakistan thus established a competitive aim.
Despite being on the losing side, Wolvaardt’s excellent batting effort earned her the Player of the Match title. Throughout the series, her batting power was quite astonishing, as she scored an impressive total of 157 runs in just three games. Her exceptional contributions also led to her being rewarded with the Player of the Series award.
Looking ahead, all eyes are now on the upcoming 1st ODI, which forms a part of the ICC Championship. This highly anticipated match is planned to take place at the National Stadium on Friday, September 8th, and it promises to produce a thrilling clash between these two highly competitive squads.
