India Women made a terrific comeback in the second ODI after an embarrassing loss to Bangladesh in the first ODI, to clinch a victory.
India Women defeated Bangladesh Women in the second ODI by 108 runs and level the series 1-1 after recovering from a loss to the hosts in the first ODI. Bangladesh Women shocked the World when they defeated the Indian side for the very first time in ODI history. This was the last chance for India Women to make a comeback and win the series, one more defeat and the game would have been over for them.
After being invited to Bat first, India again didn’t get the start they were looking for and lost their first wicket at just a mere 17 in the form of Priya Puniya. Smriti Mandhana started well and continued her inning with Yastika to give a solid start. Yastika Bhatia yet again failed to score an impressive run and departed just after making 15. Jemimah Rodrigues was the star performer for the Indian Team contributing both from the bat and ball, she not only made 86 runs while batting first but also took crucial 4 wickets for just 3 runs.
The partnership between Harleen Deol and Jemimah Rodrigues helped India to reach a good par score of 228. It was Jemimah’s innings of 86 off 78 balls that propelled India past 200 on a tough track. She was also supported by Harleen Deol who also chipped in with 25 runs.
Harmanpreet Kaur also scored a well-deserved half-century on a difficult pitch after making a comeback to the field, earlier she retired herself after getting hurt on her hand twice but later came to bat. She was also not seen during the Bangladesh run chase as she had handed over her captaincy to Smriti Mandhana who is the vice-captain of the Indian Team.
Bangladesh Women bowled well, restricting India Women to just 228. A couple of wickets apiece for Sultana Khatun and Nahida Akhtar. A wicket apiece for Marufa and Rabeya Khan each.
Now, chasing a target of 229 on a difficult pitch like Mirpur was not an easy job. Bangladesh lost their openers quite early. Murshida Khatun got into double figures. Farhana Hoque held the innings together with her 47 off 81 balls and was having a good partnership with Ritu Moni who scored 27 off 46 balls. Bangladesh were 106/3 when the 4th wicket fell and the free fall started for them losing their 7 wickets for 14 runs to be bundled out for just 120 in 35.1 overs.
The Indian bowlers bowled well. Jemimah Rodrigues came late and did the star turn picking up 4 wickets for just 3 runs. She was also supported by Devila Vaidya who picked 3 wickets for 30 runs.
The third and last ODI between these two teams has been scheduled on July 22, which will be the decider for the ODI series. A win for any of these teams will help them to seal the series for 2-1.
