Nepal and Oman have clinched their spots in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, marking a historic achievement as they both advanced to the final of the Asia qualifiers held in Nepal last Friday.

In an impressive performance, the host team secured their place in the final by defeating the United Arab Emirates with a convincing eight-wicket victory. Meanwhile, Oman showcased their cricketing prowess by thrashing Bahrain with an emphatic 10-wicket win.

Nepal’s upcoming appearance in the World Cup will be a significant milestone, as it will be their first-ever participation in the tournament. The event is set to take place in the United States of America and the West Indies next year. Notably, Oman is also breaking new ground by making it beyond the preliminary stage for the first time.

Nepal, the host nation, faced a formidable challenge against the UAE. However, they managed to conquer the obstacle, securing an eight-wicket victory in Kathmandu’s Mulpani Cricket Ground. This triumph was powered by the exceptional performance of wicketkeeper-batter Aasif Sheikh, who remained unbeaten with a score of 64.

Meanwhile, in Kirtipur, Oman secured a dominant victory over Bahrain, securing their tickets to the tournament finals. This victory was largely thanks to the openers, Kashyap Prajapati and Pratik Athavale, both of whom scored fifties and paved the way for Oman’s one-sided win.

As of now, a total of 18 teams have secured their spots in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Two African teams are expected to join them later this month. The United States and the West Indies have earned direct entry into the tournament as the hosts, and the top eight teams from the previous tournament also have a direct ticket.

This edition of the T20 World Cup will feature some debutants, including the United States and Canada, while Nepal and Oman have previously participated in the first-round qualifiers but not in the main event.

The tournament is set to take place in June 2024 across ten different venues. The competition format involves four groups, each consisting of five teams. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super 8 stage, which will be further divided into two groups, each containing four teams. The top two from each Super 8 group will move on to the semifinals. The grand finale of the 2024 T20 World Cup is scheduled for June 30, 2024, with the exact location of the final yet to be determined.
