Team India captain Rohit Sharma has dropped a major hint about his retirement plans in his comments on the 2024 T20 World Cup which is scheduled to be played in the USA and West Indies next year
After the conclusion of the ODI series in the West Indies, Rohit Sharma made a trip to the USA to launch his cricket academy named ‘Crickingdom’. During his time in the Caribbean, Rohit led India to a commendable 1-0 victory in the Test series against the West Indies. In the ODI matches, he played only the first game, deciding to rest for the remaining two matches to offer opportunities to the young and promising players in the squad.
Currently, 36 years old, Rohit’s future plans with the Indian team after the 2023 World Cup remain a topic of curiosity and interest.
Significant changes have been underway within the Indian team following their exit from the T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022. Hardik Pandya has been leading a youthful Indian side in the T20I format, while Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have not featured in any T20I matches since that event. The Test team has also undergone a transitional phase, and it’s expected that the ODI squad will experience a similar transition following the upcoming ICC World Cup scheduled for October-November. The 50-over tournament would likely mark the final appearance of Kohli, Rohit, and Ravindra Jadeja in the marquee event.
While addressing his fans in the USA, Rohit Sharma dropped a notable hint about his retirement plans. While there have been suggestions for him to concentrate solely on ODI or Test cricket, he seems determined to participate in one more T20 World Cup, showcasing his enthusiasm and commitment to the game.
“More than just going and enjoying, there is another reason to come here (in the USA). Because you know the World Cup is coming. In June, there will be the T20 World Cup (2024) happening in this part of the world. So, I’m pretty sure everyone is excited. So yaa, we look forward to that,” Rohit said in the video which is getting viral on social media.
