Eoin Morgan believes that Team India has an important edge due to the advantage of playing at home and that they are likely to be the favorites to win the future ODI World Cup in 2023.
Eoin Morgan, the captain who guided England to victory in the 2019 World Cup, has offered his backing for the leadership of Rohit Sharma as he steers the Indian squad. He believes that India has the ability to reach greatness in the much-anticipated ICC event, scheduled to debut on October 5 within India’s boundaries. Morgan noted that teams playing in their own home country tend to have an advantage, citing India’s success as hosts in 2011, as well as Australia’s win in 2015 and England’s triumph in 2019.
Even though he guided the English team to win the title in 2019, Morgan claimed that in the forthcoming ODI World Cup, his second favorite team will be his own, England, with India being his top option. He further pointed out that India holds the favorite’s position due to their familiarity with the circumstances on their home ground.
“England are a very good team. I will rate them second favorites after India but only just. India on home soil is the favorite and are a very good team. That’s been the case for the last few World Cups. India in 2011, Australia in 2015, England in 2019 and India again in 2023. But Jos Buttler and his team have some fantastic batsmen and bowlers and their talent will make a big difference come the business end of the tournament,” Morgan told RevSportz.
Since they have “maximum depth and versatility,” Morgan also predicted that Australia and Babar Azam’s Pakistan will appear in the tournament’s final four in addition to England and the hosts India.
“If you ask to pick my top four, I will add Australia and Pakistan to the mix. With the matches spread across all parts of the country, it will be a real test and these four names have the maximum depth and versatility,” he added.
