England has called up Pacer Brydon Carse to step in for the injured left-arm fast-bowler Reece Topley during the ongoing 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup for the remaining matches.
Pacer Brydon Carse fills in as the replacement for the injured left-arm fast-bowler Reece Topley in England’s team for the ongoing 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. However, it’s vital to note that before the substitute player officially joins the squad, consent from the ICC’s Event Technical Committee is required.
Carse, famed for his performance throughout the middle-overs in 50-over games, made his international debut for England back in 2021 and has 12 ODI appearances under his belt, claiming 14 wickets. In a T20I debut against New Zealand in September, he showcased his talents with figures of 3-23. He’s standing in for Topley, who unfortunately won’t be able to continue in the competition owing to a left index finger fracture sustained during England’s huge 229-run loss to South Africa at the Wankhede Stadium.
Topley, England’s best bowler in the competition, had to leave the field when a ferocious drive down the ground by Rassie van der Dussen struck his index finger on its way to the boundary rope. Despite this serious setback, he returned later to dismiss Aiden Markram and David Miller, adding to his score after already removing Quinton de Kock’s wicket with the second delivery of South Africa’s innings. It’s worth emphasizing that Topley’s World Cup path has been hampered by injuries, starting with a shoulder dislocation during his maiden match for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL earlier this year. This happened after a hard four-year hiatus owing to a stress fracture of the back.
