In a face-off at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium, Australia and the Netherlands faced each other on a cricket field. Australia emerged victorious in the toss and decided to take the batting initiative. Their prowess with the bat was evident as they compiled a formidable total of 399 runs for the loss of 8 wickets within their allotted 50 overs. This showcased their strong batting performance, with notable contributions from Warner, who scored a century with 104 runs, Smith adding 71 runs, Labuschagne contributing 62 runs, and Maxwell making an impressive 106 runs.
The Netherlands had a terrible day on the field, with their bowlers struggling to control the Australian batters. However, it was Bas de Leede, the pacer, who had the most hard day, as he found himself in an unwelcome record-breaking position. Bas de Leede conceded 115 runs while claiming two wickets in his ten overs, marking the costliest session ever bowled in 50-over cricket.
In his period, he managed to dismiss Marnus Labuschagne and Josh Inglish but faced a storm from Glenn Maxwell, who pounded 28 runs in his final over. This new record surpasses the previous one held jointly by Australian bowlers Mick Lewis and Adam Zampa, who had handed out 113 runs each in matches against South Africa.

Notably, this pricey spell by Bas de Leede also goes down as the costliest in World Cup history. On the brighter side for Australia, both Labuschagne (62) and Steve Smith (71) chalked up half-centuries during the encounter. Meanwhile, David Warner’s century became his sixth in World Cup history, placing him only one short of Rohit Sharma’s record of seven hundreds, the most by any player in the World Cup.
Furthermore, De Leede’s performance marked the costliest spell in a World Cup contest. Rashid Khan had previously set this record when he conceded 110 runs without taking a wicket in his 9 overs during the 2019 World Cup against England.
