India’s recent series against South Africa concluded in a 1-1 draw, causing a dip in their rating points. As a result, they relinquished the top spot to Australia.

Australia briefly held the pinnacle of the ICC Test team rankings after their triumph in the ICC World Test Championship Final 2023 against India. Their victory, marked by a 209-run win, earned them their inaugural WTC mace. This triumph signaled the beginning of Australia’s dominance, a trend solidified by their recent performance at home against Pakistan. In this series, Australia’s commanding display reaffirmed their status as the leading force in test cricket.

Before the latest update, Australia and India both held a rating of 118, but Rohit Sharma’s team led on points. However, Australia claimed the top spot with consecutive victories over Pakistan, ending India’s four-month reign as the No.1 team in all formats. Last September, India had become only the second team in history to hold the No.1 position across formats.

Australia’s win in the ICC World Test Championship final, coupled with their success in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, gives a clear image of their cricketing dominance over the last year. Under the charismatic leadership of Cummins, the team continually achieved excellent achievements, smashing records and setting new norms on the world stage.

Turning to player rankings, Kane Williamson has held onto his place as the top-ranked Test player despite missing a substantial amount of matches in 2023 due to an untimely knee injury. In ODIs, Babar Azam earns the top rank, while Suryakumar Yadav retains his position as the number-one T20I player.

As the current third test between Australia and Pakistan unfolds and the much-anticipated five-match test series between India and England approaches, the test team rankings are in a state of change. The competition for the coveted top slot is heating up, with critical ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 points hanging in the balance. The results of these matches are guaranteed to have a major influence on the standings.
