With Quinton de Kock unavailable, young dynamic South African talent Tristan Stubbs will step in as the wicketkeeper in the opening T20I against Australia in Durban. The match is scheduled to be played on August 30th.
In the upcoming first T20I against Australia in Durban on August 30, there will be a change in the lineup since Quinton de Kock is absent. Stepping in for this job will be the rising star Tristan Stubbs. South African Management has shown their faith on this young talented batsman.
Aiden Markram, the captain of the Proteas, expressed his opinion on this fresh development. He emphasized Stubbs’ effort in the practice sessions, where the 23-year-old has committed several hours to developing his wicket-keeping skills. What adds to Stubbs’ prowess is his added capability as a bowler, making him quite a versatile asset. Markram acknowledged his appreciation for Stubbs’ all-round ability and is enthusiastic about his potential to shine on the International cricket stage.
“He has been working really hard over the last couple of weeks and those that know Stubbo well, know he is the kind of guy that will never really leave a stone unturned. He has spent hours and hours practicing his keeping and it’s been great to see.”
“From his personal game, it adds another element for him to take forward in his cricketing journey. We’ve seen him do well with the ball and we all know what he can do with the bat, now all of a sudden he has got the gloves,” Markram said in the pre-match press conference.
In March, during a Test match against the West Indies, Keshav Maharaj suffered a ligament injury that initially seemed to rule him out for the remainder of the year. However, there’s been a remarkable improvement in his condition. In fact, he’s made such strides that he’s now a part of South Africa’s squad for the upcoming second and third T20Is against Australia, as well as the ODI series. When discussing this development, Markram expressed his joy and admiration for Maharaj’s journey.
“It’s fantastic to see him back on the park. He has been incredibly committed and motivated to get ahead of schedule in terms of his recovery and today is probably a very special day for him. It’s huge for his career and it’s something he can be incredibly proud of, to get back on the park this soon,” Markram mentioned.
