Following the conclusion of the ongoing Pakistan Super League, the players from the Pakistan Cricket Team will be gearing up to enhance their fitness levels through training with the Pakistan Army.

Just a week post the PSL 2024 final, preparations are set to kick off with an intensive training program. Mohsin Naqvi, the newly-appointed head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), unveiled the training camp details on Tuesday, March 5, at an Islamabad hotel, addressing a group of players.

Expressing his concern about the players’ inability to hit sixes, Naqvi emphasized the need for a comprehensive fitness plan. He instructed PCB officials to devise a strategy to elevate each cricketer’s fitness levels.

Acknowledging the challenges in finding a suitable timeframe for the training camp amidst a hectic schedule, Naqvi confirmed that the camp, in collaboration with the Pakistan Army, is scheduled to take place in Kakul from March 25 to April 8.

“When I was watching the matches in Lahore, I don’t think a single one of you hit a six that went into the stands,” Naqvi said.

“Whenever a six like that was hit, I used to think a foreign player must have hit that. I have asked the board to make a plan that gets every player’s fitness up to speed. You’ll have to make a proper effort for that.”

“We have New Zealand coming up, then Ireland, England and the T20 World Cup. I wondered, ‘When will we train?’ but there was no time. However, we’ve found a window, where we’ve organized a camp in Kakul (military academy) from March 25 to April 8. The Pakistan Army will be involved in your training, and hopefully, they’ll help you out,” he further added.

According to a report in ESPNcricinfo, it seems that an upcoming intensive training camp might not be well-received by the Pakistan players. They’ve been in action consistently over the past few months and were probably looking forward to a well-deserved rest after the conclusion of the PSL. Unfortunately, the PCB has different plans.
