Iceland may not boast an international cricket team, but the Twitter admin behind Iceland Cricket is hands down one of the wittiest accounts on the platform. Constantly serving up tweets on all things cricket, it’s a delightful surprise from a nation not traditionally associated with the sport.

Babar Azam found himself at the center of criticism during the recent ICC World Cup 2023 when his performance with the bat fell short of expectations. Despite being the top-ranked ODI batter at the tournament’s commencement, Babar couldn’t notch up a single century.

Adding to the disappointment, under his captaincy, Pakistan missed out on securing a spot in the semi-finals. The loss to Afghanistan particularly stung, casting a shadow over the team’s pride. This series of events led to Babar Azam facing not only scrutiny for his batting form but also criticism for his leadership role.

In a recent Twitter exchange, the admin behind Iceland Cricket brought some good-natured humor to the table by playfully trolling Babar Azam, the former captain and star batter for Pakistan. When @stats_feed, the World of Statistics Twitter page, inquired about aspects that haven’t returned to pre-COVID normalcy, Iceland Cricket responded with a clever and amusing twist.

Quoting this, the Iceland Cricket Twitter admin replied: “The batting average of Babar Azam”

This tweet has taken the internet by storm, racking up more than 15,000 likes and 2,000 retweets. While Pakistani fans took a swing at the Iceal Cricket Twitter admin, their Indian counterparts didn’t hold back in teasing Babar Azam.

Following a disappointing performance in the ICC World Cup 2023, Babar has decided to step down as the captain of the Pakistan cricket team across all three formats. In his place, Shan Masood will lead the team in Tests, while Shaheen Afridi will take charge in T20Is. The captaincy for the T20I format is yet to be announced, with the board expected to make the decision soon.

Currently engrossed in a training camp with the Test team, Azam is gearing up for Pakistan’s upcoming three-match Test series against Australia. The series is set to kick off with the first game on December 14.

Pakistan squad for Australia Tests:

Shan Masood (c), Aamir Jamal, Abdullah Shafique, Abrar Ahmed, Babar Azam, Faheem Ashraf, Hasan Ali, Imam-ul-Haq, Khurram Shahzad, Mir Hamza, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Noman Ali, Saim Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, Sarfaraz Ahmed (wk), Saud Shakeel and Shaheen Shah.

Sri Lanka secured a 32-run win against India in the second ODI at R. Premadasa Stadium, gaining a 1-0 advantage in the three-match series. In a disappointing turn of events, the Indian cricket team, captained by Rohit Sharma, faced their first loss of the Sri Lanka series on Sunday. The hosts secured a comfortable 32-run victory at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. After the match, Rohit Sharma didn't hold back in his critique, acknowledging that his team failed to play up to standard during the encounter. Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first, setting India a target of 241 runs. The Men in Blue got off to a promising start, but their chase unraveled significantly, largely due to an outstanding bowling display by Sri Lankan leg-spinner Jeffrey Vandersay. Vandersay's career-best figures of 6/33 played a pivotal role in dismantling India's batting lineup. Rohit Sharma's brisk 64 off 44 balls initially put India in a strong position. However, his dismissal, attempting a reverse sweep that was brilliantly caught by Pathum Nissanka off Vandersay's bowling, signaled the beginning of India's downfall. When asked about his shot selection during the post-match presentation, the 37-year-old defended his aggressive approach. Speaking to the presenters after the match, Rohit said, “We didn't play good cricket, that's why we lost the game. We do understand the nature of this surface and the nature of how the game is going to go as well. It gets really, really tough in the middle overs. So you have to try and capitalize in the powerplay and get as many runs as possible. That's what both openers were trying to do. But we were just not good enough today.” “The reason I got 65 runs is because of the way I batted. When I bat like that, there is bound to be risk taking, and I'm not afraid to do that. Whenever you get out, whether you score 100, 50 or zero, you feel disappointed if you don't get across the line. But that won't change my intent,” the Indian skipper further added. In challenging spin-friendly conditions in Colombo on Sunday, India faced a target of 241 runs. Despite valiant efforts from captain Rohit Sharma and middle-order batsman Axar, the rest of the Indian lineup struggled. As a result, the team fell short, losing the match by 32 runs.
