Former Team India fast bowler Praveen Kumar recently shared some intriguing insights about Rohit Sharma and his captaincy approach.
Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian cricket team, has been leading his side admirably in the ongoing 5-match Test series against England. Despite a shaky start with a loss in the opening match, Sharma’s team bounced back strongly, securing three consecutive victories to take a commanding 3-1 lead in the series.
With one final Test remaining, India is eager to secure another win and wrap up the series with a 4-1 margin against Ben Stokes’ England squad. The fifth Test is set to take place at the picturesque Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala, commencing on March 07.
India is determined to finish the series on a high note, and all eyes will be on Rohit Sharma and his team as they aim for another convincing performance to clinch victory in the final Test match.
In a recent conversation with TOI, former Indian swing bowler Praveen Kumar expressed his thoughts on captain Rohit Sharma.
“Rohit is a fantastic skipper. He is leading the side really well. Sourav Ganguly was the one who built the team. He created the team with a mix of youngsters and experienced players,’’ he said.
“Rohit is ‘yaaro ka yaar’ (friend of friends). He scolds the players when they make mistakes and hugs them too. He guides them and gives them all liberty on the field,” the former pacer further said.
In the same conversation, when Praveen Kumar was questioned about which Indian fast bowler from the present era has left a lasting impression on him, his answer was immediate: Jasprit Bumrah. He expressed his admiration for Bumrah’s exceptional skills on the field, emphasizing that Bumrah’s knack for taking wickets at crucial moments sets him apart from others in the game.
He said: “Jasprit Bumrah is just exceptional. He stands out and I don’t think there are any doubts on his skills that anyone should comment on. He is a senior player now. He has learned how to take wickets at any given time.”
