Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer has made some interesting choices for India’s upcoming first One Day International (ODI) against the West Indies in Barbados. He decided not to include the young opening batsmen Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan in his ideal India XI for the match.
Instead, Jaffer, who is 45 years old, suggested having Sanju Samson in the team. He believes that giving consistent opportunities to Samson in the playing XI will be crucial as Team India prepares for the Asia Cup in 2023 and the even more significant event, the World Cup in the same year.
After winning the Test series, India will now shift focus to the ODI format and take on the West Indies in a 3-match ODI series starting on July 27. The first two matches will be held in Barbados, while the third game will be played in Trinidad.
India has only 12 ODIs left from now until the World Cup in 2023 to try out new and young players and finalize the squad for the tournament, which will be held in India. While the West Indies team hasn’t qualified for the World Cup, this series still provides a valuable opportunity for players like Sanju Samson, Suryakumar Yadav, and Umran Malik to showcase their skills and make a strong case for inclusion in India’s World Cup squad.
