Virat Kohli is all set to join the elite club of batters when he takes the field against the West Indies in the second Test on Thursday, in Port of Spain. The star batter will become the 10th player and fourth Indian player to achieve this milestone.
Sachin Tendulkar is being called the God of Cricket for a reason, as he sits on top of this list with 664 matches followed by Sri Lanka’s legendary batter Mahela Jayawardene who has played 652 matches. The other two greats including MS Dhoni and Rahul Dravid are the other two Indians on the list and have played 538 and 509 matches respectively.
Virat will be playing his 500th International Match when the Rohit Sharma-led Team India will take on West India at the Queen’s Park Oval on 20th July. Virat Kohli will be eyeing to score a good score to make this match more memorable for himself.
Talking about Virat Kohli then there is no doubt that he is one of the greatest batsmen in modern cricket. He has 25,000 plus runs to his International Career with 75 centuries and 130 half-centuries with an all-time average of 53 in 499 International appearances which is an impeccable record in itself.
India thrashed West Indies in the first Test by an innings and 141 runs on the back of Ravichandran Ashwin’s 12-wicket haul and young star Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 171 as the Rohit Sharma-led side started the new WTC cycle on the right note with a big win, here on Saturday.
India leads the series 1-0 in a two-match contest and will be looking forward to dominating in the second match as well. A win for India and they will end up sweeping the West Indies side 2-0. One more thing which is to be noted is that the second test which will be played between these two great teams will be their 100th match against each other in Test history. Both teams will be eyeing a win to make this match memorable for them. So far, 99 Test matches have been played between these two teams in which West Indies have dominated over India and have recorded 30 test wins whereas India just have 23 and the rest resulting in a draw. West Indies has yet to win a series against India since 2002.
Captain Rohit Sharma utilised their two main spinners Ashwin and Jadeja really well in the first game and Ashwin showed his full dominance over the WI batters to reflect why he is the Number 1 ranked bowler in red-ball cricket.
