The World Cup journey of Virat Kohli has been truly remarkable. He continues to impress with his outstanding performance, adding another fifty-plus scores to his tally in this prestigious tournament. The way he’s going, it seems he’s on a mission to chase down Sachin Tendulkar in numerous batting records.

Kohli seemed to be well on his way to securing his 49th ODI century at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, but he fell tantalizingly short, just 12 runs away from that historic milestone. Kohli appeared to be on track to notch his second century in the current World Cup, only to be caught out by the bowler Dilshan Madushanka, leaving the Mumbai crowd in awe.

Virat Kohli’s performance in the current World Cup has been nothing short of outstanding. With yet another fifty-plus score in the tournament, the master of chases seems to be closing in on Sachin Tendulkar in various batting records. Notably, Virat has surpassed Sachin Tendulkar in another batting milestone by reaching 1000 ODI runs in the year 2023, marking the eighth time he’s achieved this feat in a calendar year.

Virat Kohli Needs To Play The Duleep Trophy Tournament, Here’s Why?

Sachin Tendulkar, a legend in his own game, managed to score 1000 ODI runs in a calendar year seven times during his illustrious career. Both of these cricketing greats have garnered praise for their remarkable consistency in the limited-overs format. Sachin achieved the 1000+ ODI runs milestone in the years 1994, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2003, and 2007, while Virat accomplished this in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019, and now in 2023.

It’s worth noting that Virat Kohli had a few relatively quieter years during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Indian cricket team didn’t play as many ODIs as they did before the 2019 World Cup.

Virat Kohli had a remarkable 2017 season, scoring an astounding 1460 runs in just 26 innings. For him, this was a record-breaking year in terms of runs scored in a single year. Interestingly, Kohli accomplished this distinction that year by scoring six hundreds in one-day internationals. Conversely, 1998 was Sachin Tendulkar’s most productive year as he created a global record with 1894 runs in 33 ODI innings, including an incredible nine hundreds. The record for the most runs scored by a batter in a single calendar year in ODI cricket is still held by Tendulkar’s amazing feat.
