With the highly awaited Asia Cup and ODI World Cup in 2023 just around the corner, Brad Hogg, the former Australian all-rounder, took a moment to express his admiration for the former Indian captain, Virat Kohli.
Hogg didn’t just offer a general commendation for Kohli; he painted a vibrant picture of Kohli’s prowess. He couldn’t contain his enthusiasm while describing Kohli’s shot against Haris Rauf, labeling it as the pinnacle of cricketing excellence in his eyes. This particular stroke showcased Kohli’s unparalleled mastery as he elegantly sent Rauf’s delivery sailing over his head, despite it being a well-pitched ball.
With unmistakable conviction, the versatile cricketer emphasized that Kohli’s performance truly comes to the forefront when he’s in the right state of mind. During an engaging conversation on Rеv Sportz, Brad Hogg confidently singled out Australia as India’s primary contender in the forthcoming World Cup. It’s worth noting that Australia recently triumphed over India in the World Test Championship Final and further solidified their dominance with a victory in the Ashes series.
“Hitting Haris Rauf back over his head off a good length, that was the best shot that I have ever seen in cricket. It was brilliant. Yeah, he was just awesome. He was switched on.”
“But I think fans out there have got to realize too that there’s a lot of pressure on Virat Kohli. He’s going to have those ups and downs When he’s got that right frame of mind, he’s had the pressure off him, he’s been able to relax and come back, you see the dominant Virat Kohli, and I think we’re gonna see a brilliant Virat Kohli on home soil in a World Cup. He wants it, and that’s a big danger for opposition teams” Hogg added.
Hogg also highlights that Australia draws its strength from a combination of versatile performance and strong mental readiness. This quality positions them as a strong contender against India, particularly in high-pressure tournaments. With a well-rounded team and recent successes, Australia emerges as a genuine challenge to India’s aspirations for victory in the World Cup.
“I think Australia are the only team that can knock India off in the World Cup. So I’m quietly confident with that, with the team that we’ve got right now. They’ve had success in the World Test Championship, having success in the Ashes, and they seem as though they’re very switched on. So I think that’s going to be a great contest. I’m looking at the Indian team, very explosive batting lineup” said Hogg on Rev Sportz.
