According to a medical report provided by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Shubman Gill will miss India’s upcoming game against Afghanistan. It has been confirmed that Gill won’t be able to take part in India’s second match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. This is the first formal notification regarding Gill’s condition. The game is slated to occur at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium.

Shubman Gill has been fighting with dengue fever ever since he came to Chennai. Typically, it takes roughly 7-10 days to properly recoup from Dengue, and Gill may want some additional recuperation before he can make his debut in the World Cup for India. The BCCI has released a formal medical report regarding Shubman Gill’s condition, stating that he won’t be joining the squad in their journey to Delhi on October 9th. Instead, he will remain in Chennai, where he’ll receive continued medical treatment and supervision.

BCCI’s official update reads, “Team India batter Shubman Gill will not be travelling with the team to Delhi on 9th October 2023… He will stay back in Chennai and will be under the supervision of the medical team.”

The Indian team management had great hopes of Shubman Gill being ready for the opening game against Australia. However, Captain Rohit Sharma, at the toss, shared that Gill would require a few more days to fully recover.

Earlier, there were rumours in the media saying that Shubman Gill might join the squad to Delhi and then head to Chandigarh to spend some time with his family. Gill is desperate to make his World Cup debut against Pakistan, but given the current circumstances, it seems impossible that he’ll regain full fitness this week. It’s more conceivable that he’ll make his World Cup debut against Bangladesh on October 19th.

Team India won their first match against Australia after a valiant effort and by a margin of six wickets. India’s top-order batters had a difficult start and went through a nerve-racking period. India was in trouble after losing three wickets in the first two overs of a modest 200-run chase. Ishan Kishan and skipper Rohit Sharma, the opening combination, both fell without scoring, laying the stage for a challenging start. Virat Kohli, who scored 85 runs, and KL Rahul, who finished unbeaten on 97*, were ultimately responsible for leading India to win at Chepauk.
