Travis Head has apparently made his way to India, where he’s linked up with the Australian squad competing in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup.

Travis Head has made his way to India to rejoin the Australian squad currently participating in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup. Unfortunately, he won’t be able to participate in the team’s fourth game against Pakistan due to his hand injury. However, there’s hope that he’ll be fully recovered and ready for action when Australia takes on the Netherlands in Delhi on October 25.

The 29-year-old batsman suffered a hand injury during the fourth ODI against South Africa on September 15 when Gerald Coetzee’s delivery struck his glove, leading to a fracture in a joint in his left hand, as revealed by subsequent scans. Despite this setback, Head managed to retain his spot in the ODI squad. Initially, it was expected that he’d require more time to heal and might miss a significant portion of the group-stage matches.

Encouragingly, Head has already resumed batting in the nets for the first time since his injury. In a recent update on his fitness, he mentioned that he’s made substantial progress on his road to recovery.

“It’s coming along well, and probably better than we hoped. When we decided not to go with surgery, which would have meant a 10-week recovery, we were told it would be minimum six weeks with the splint before we could look at playing again,” Head told cricket.com.au.

Australia’s performance in the current ODI World Cup has been quite disappointing so far, with losses to both India and South Africa. Their latest match took place at the Ekana Stadium against Sri Lanka, where both teams were vying for a crucial win in the tournament. In a thrilling encounter, Australia managed to secure a 5-wicket victory over Sri Lanka, with Marcus Stoinis sealing the deal with a powerful six. The Sri Lankan bowlers, led by Dilshan Madushanka, managed to take a few wickets, keeping the chase competitive, but their total wasn’t quite enough to defend.

Talking about the match then, Sri Lanka, after winning the toss, opted to start their innings. Australia’s Adam Zampa had an impressive day, taking four crucial wickets to help limit Kusal Mendis and his team to a total of 209 runs, achieved in 43.3 overs. Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc also made valuable contributions, each securing two wickets for the Australian side. On the Sri Lankan front, Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera stood out with scores of 61 and 78 runs, respectively.
