Veteran Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan took to Twitter to playfully poke fun at the Pakistan cricket team’s lackluster and entertaining fielding performance in their warm-up match against Australia.
In their second warm-up match for the 2023 World Cup, Australia faced Pakistan at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Tuesday. Opting to bat first, the Australian team amassed a total of 351 runs, but not without some amusing and very mediocre fielding moments courtesy of Mohammad Wasim Jnr and Mohammad Nawaz. These instances rapidly became the focus of memes and humorous banter on social media, with even Shikhar Dhawan joining in on the fun.
In the 23rd over of Australia’s innings, Marnus Labuschagne played a shot from Haris Rauf towards the legside. As the ball headed square, Wasim approached from fine leg, while Nawaz came in from deep square leg. In a strangely timed action, both of them stopped and allowed the ball to pass between them, eventually reaching the border. What was believed to be a regular single transformed into an unexpected four runs, much to the enjoyment of cricket fans worldwide.
Social media users didn’t hold back with their trolling, and even to the surprise of fans, Shikhar Dhawan, no longer a part of Team India’s ODI squad, joined in on the banter.
Shikhar Dhawan tweeted, “Pakistan & fielding never ending love story”
Pakistan faced a setback in their opening warm-up match against New Zealand as the Kiwis comfortably chased down a target of 346 runs. Similarly, in today’s match, Australia managed to score a formidable 351 runs, highlighting Pakistan’s ongoing struggles with their bowling performance.
