The South African wicket-keeper seems to be relishing his last ODI tournament, having officially declared his retirement from the One Day International format. De Kock played a crucial role in steering the South African innings to a respectable position, especially after the early loss of skipper Temba Bavuma against New Zealand.

Quinton De Kock’s exceptional performance at MCA Stadium in Pune has extended his lead as the top run-scorer in the current tournament. With an impressive 545 runs in just 7 innings, he has notched up an incredible four centuries. Moreover, he has etched his name in history by becoming the first South African batter to surpass the 500-run mark in a single World Cup tournament, a feat no other South African batsman has accomplished in their World Cup career.

Jacques Kallis’ impressive record of 485 runs in 10 matches had stood as the benchmark until now. Kallis had a spectacular performance during the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies, scoring a century and three half-centuries. However, Quinton De Kock has now surpassed Kallis’ record, becoming the first South African player to achieve the remarkable milestone of 500 runs in a single World Cup edition. He joins an elite group of only 15 batters who have accomplished this feat in the history of the tournament.

Sachin Tendulkar, a cricket legend, holds the record for the most runs scored in a single edition of the World Cup. In the 2003 World Cup, he amassed an astonishing 673 runs in 11 games. Sachin had previously achieved the 500+ runs milestone in the 1996 World Cup with a total of 523 runs. With the incredible form De Kock is displaying in this edition, he is poised to challenge Sachin Tendulkar’s record. De Kock has two more league games remaining, along with a semi-final, and he currently trails Sachin’s record by just 128 runs.

Quinton De Kock achieved his 4th century in World Cup history, an incredible milestone that saw him dispatch a colossal six over long leg against Jimmy Nessham. It took him 103 balls to reach this remarkable feat, marking his 21st century in ODI cricket. Unfortunately, De Kock’s brilliant innings came to an end after scoring 114 runs from 116 balls, featuring 10 boundaries and 3 maximums.
