After a lot of drama, Pakistan have finally confirmed their participation in the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 and they will travel to India for the tournament.
The issue surrounding Pakistan’s participation in the Asia Cup initially created tension between the cricket boards of India and Pakistan. After India declined to participate in the Asia Cup in Pakistan, the PCB made statements indicating that the Babar Azam-led side might not travel to India for the World Cup unless the BCCI changed its stance. However, eventually, the matter was resolved, and Pakistan’s participation in the World Cup was confirmed.
To ensure the team’s safety and security, the PCB sent a security team to India to inspect the grounds, and based on their report, the Pakistan government gave the green light for the team’s travel to the marquee tournament.
Initially, as per the schedule released by the BCCI, Pakistan’s first match was scheduled against the Netherlands on October 6. However, there might be changes to the match date. Additionally, the highly anticipated clash between India and Pakistan, which was originally planned for October 15 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, is likely to be preponed to October 14 due to Navratri celebrations. This adjustment may lead to the entire schedule being re-released with some modifications.
“Pakistan has consistently maintained that sports should not be mixed with politics. It has, therefore, decided to send its cricket team to India to participate in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023,” the Foreign Office said in a statement on Sunday.
“Pakistan’s decision shows its constructive and responsible approach vis- -vis India’s intransigent attitude, as the latter had refused to send its Cricket Team to Pakistan for the Asia Cup,” the statement further read.
