As the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 enters its crucial phase, the semi-finals will showcase the talents of four top teams, leading up to the highly anticipated final on November 19 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Disappointingly, Pakistan secured the fifth position in the tournament, managing only four victories out of the nine matches played. It was a subpar performance by the Pakistan team, marking a regrettable chapter in their World Cup journey.

The tournament has seen some remarkable moments setting new records, but it’s been a tough ride for certain teams expected to make it to the semi-finals. England, the defending champions, surprisingly ended up in the 7th spot, echoing a similar disappointing narrative for Pakistan.

Babar Azam and his team kicked off the tournament with two victories, raising hopes. However, a string of four consecutive losses dashed those aspirations, closing in on the possibility of progressing. Although a slim chance remained, contingent on the performance of other teams, fate didn’t smile on them. In the end, Pakistan secured the fifth position, managing four wins out of the nine games they played.

For the third consecutive time, Pakistan faced disappointment as they failed to secure a spot in the semi-finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup. The last occasion they achieved this feat was back in 2011 under the leadership of Shahid Afridi. Adding to the woes, Pakistan suffered a defeat to Afghanistan, causing turmoil among the team management and cricket board. Additionally, there was a surprising resignation from fast bowling coach Morne Morkel, who had originally signed a contract until December.

The Pakistan Cricket Board has gone a step further by dismissing the entire selection committee with immediate effect. This move follows Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. There are rumors circulating that the PCB is considering the removal of the team’s director, Mickey Arthur, as well.

Pakistan didn’t have the tournament they hoped for, entering as the top-ranked team but struggling against stronger opponents. The PCB might take further actions in the days ahead, and it’ll be intriguing to observe if there are any alterations in the team composition or captaincy.
