Pakistan’s journey in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India has been challenging. Although they began the tournament with two back-to-back victories, the team faced a tough series of defeats in the following four matches. This has left them in a precarious position, with the risk of elimination looming large. To make matters worse, there has been a significant setback as the former Pakistan captain, Inzamam-ul-Haq, has stepped down as the PCB chief selector.
It seems that the troubles afflicting the Pakistan cricket team transcend beyond only their on-field performance. There are several worrying elements now surrounding the team. Players are apparently having difficulties in getting their salaries, internal problems within the team have occurred, and Babar Azam appears to be encountering communication issues with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Amidst this backdrop of issues, another twist has surfaced as the chief selector, Inzamam-ul-Haq, has chosen to resign from his job in the midst of a current competition.
Inzamam-ul-Haq has recently faced accusations of occupying a role in a business that has engaged in agreements for marketing and commercial endorsements with several Pakistani players. These allegations have stirred up significant controversy, casting doubt on the fairness and transparency of the team selection process.
Claiming to be “deeply disheartened by these conflict of interest allegations, Inzamam has unequivocally denied any wrongdoing and said, “I am heartbroken at these allegations of a conflict of interest and if the PCB holds an inquiry I am ready to face that.”
It appears that Pakistan’s cricket team is facing a string of setbacks. Following their disappointing performance in the 2023 World Cup, there’s been yet another blow to the team. Inzamam-ul-Haq, the former Pakistan captain, has stepped down from his role as the PCB chief selector. This decision comes in the wake of Pakistan’s four consecutive losses in the tournament.

Inzamam had been in this position for six months, and it’s worth noting that the PCB had recently issued a statement calling for support for both Babar Azam and Inzamam-ul-Haq. However, it seems that there might be underlying issues within the governing body and among the players. Importantly, Inzamam’s resignation will also create a financial challenge for the PCB.
Certain media reports have verified that the board is responsible for disbursing a total amount of roughly PKR 15 million, equivalent to about 2.5 million PKR per month for six months, to Inzamam. Additionally, there have been speculations regarding potential conflicts of interest between the board and the players. All in all, the Pakistan cricket team has been going through a series of challenges, both on and off the field.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has formed a five-member fact-finding team in light of serious allegations regarding conflicts of interest. The primary objective of this committee is to thoroughly investigate these concerns, with a strong emphasis on ensuring that the selection process remains fair and transparent.
