India (IND) and Australia (AUS) have engaged in some unforgettable clashes in ICC knockout matches across various formats over the years. Among these, we witnessed the epic final of the ICC Men’s World Cup in 2003, a thrilling Semifinal in the 2007 T20 World Cup, a nail-biting Quarter-final in the 2011 World Cup, and an intense Semifinal in the 2015 World Cup. In these encounters, the Men in Blue and the Aussies consistently showcased the true spirit of the game, delivering fierce yet fair competition. In the nine editions of the quadrennial ODI World Cup, India and Australia have faced off in 12 matches. Australia has maintained an upper hand in this World Cup rivalry, boasting a 75% win record. In the 2003 World Cup final held in Johannesburg, India and Australia clashed in a memorable encounter. Australia dominated with a formidable total of 359/2, fueled by Ricky Ponting’s explosive innings of 140* and Damien Martyn’s contribution of 88. In response, India struggled, managing only 234, as Australia secured a convincing 125-run victory to retain their title.

Fast forward to the 2011 World Cup quarterfinal at Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad, and India sought redemption. Facing a target of 260, the Men in Blue found themselves at 187 for 5. However, a resilient partnership between Yuvraj Singh (57*) and Suresh Raina (34*) guided India to a comfortable victory. This triumph marked India’s first World Cup win over Australia since 1987.
