The young sensational England batter Harry Brook has reacted to his exclusion from the provisional squad for World Cup 2023. He has already established himself in Test cricket and has done decently in T20Is as well and has played three ODIs so far in his career and scored one half-century.
In an intriguing turn of events, Ben Stokes, who had retired from 50-over cricket in 2022, stunned everyone by reconsidering his decision earlier this week. This adjustment led to his selection over Brook in the squad for the forthcoming four-match ODI series against New Zealand. This squad is also England’s original selection for the ODI World Cup. Consequently, Brook’s chances of participating in the big tournament seem rather limited.
The 24-year-old young batter said that England’s white-ball coach, Matthew Motts, and captain, Jos Buttler, had communicated to him that due to Stokes’ return, he wouldn’t be part of the 2023 edition of the ODI World Cup. Brook regarded Stokes in high regard, believing him one of the finest cricketers in history. He indicated that there wasn’t much cause for protest about his own non-selection, given the caliber of Stokes.
“Obviously, it’s disappointing but I can’t do anything about it now,” Brook said.
“You’ve just got to move on. I’m trying not to think about it anymore. I’ve not had much conversation with Matthew [Mott] or Jos [Buttler]. They said with Stokesy coming back I was probably going to miss out this time. He is one of the best players to ever play cricket, so I can’t really complain, can I?” Brook was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
“I feel like I’m playing well at the minute and feel I could potentially add value to the team. [But] there’s always something more you could do.”
Harry Brook Says He Hasn’t Had Much Opportunity To Play One-day Cricket:
In February, Harry Brook recorded his last appearance in a One Day International (ODI) match against South Africa. During the second ODI, he demonstrated his talents by scoring an astounding 80 runs off 75 deliveries.
Reflecting on his recent results, the right-handed batter conceded that his limited experience with List A matches might have played a part in his removal. Additionally, he noted that his T20 results had also been uneven lately. These factors combined could have contributed to his omission from the team.
“I haven’t had much opportunity to play one-day cricket, whether that be for Yorkshire or England and although I’ve played a lot of T20 cricket, I don’t know if I’ve done as well as I have in the past in the last six months, so that might have had an effect,” Brook concluded.
