Cricket’s most awaited event, the 2023 Cricket World Cup, kicked off with great pomp and fervor at the world’s biggest cricket stadium Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India. The inaugural clash featured England taking on New Zealand, igniting a cricketing celebration that promised to be unlike any other.

This immense stadium, with an incredible seating capacity of 130,000 fans, served as the ideal setting for the world’s most esteemed cricket tournament. Yet, the sight of unoccupied chairs during the tournament’s opening match left many wondering about the event’s excitement and appeal.

While the Narendra Modi Stadium proudly reflects grandeur and cricketing excellence, the relatively low turnout on its inauguration day provided an unanticipated obstacle. A substantial chunk of the stadium was lightly packed with empty seats, a scene that didn’t exactly fit the tournament’s acclaimed reputation. This unforeseen predicament spurred cricket enthusiasts from around the world to question the organizers’ capacity to fill this mammoth arena for such an important sporting event.

The dissatisfaction experienced by supporters rippled across multiple social media channels. Twitter acted as an opportunity for supporters to express their grievances, with one person commenting, “This is becoming really humiliating. The toss for the opening match of the World Cup was placed in front of a largely empty stadium.”

Here is how fans reacted to the empty stadium during the Eng vs NZ match:

Too hot plus too much cricket
Plus asian games craze

— Bored_biotechnologist (@imbb_vhc) October 5, 2023

This year management has been under par, India should have played first match as host country to increase hype.

— Shubman Gang (@ShubmanGang) October 5, 2023

World Cup opener should have India in it to have its stands filled. Who will come to watch England vs New Zealand when people can easily watch Bairstow, Moin Ali, Butler regularly in IPL ?

— Rambo (@sniggy1992) October 5, 2023

Why worried so much, all tickets are sold out and will be filled by evening. Everyone is busy in work and those free don't want to sit in the 40° heat for watching the same cricketers they watch throughout the IPL.

This is absolutely nuts, let’s hope it gets filled. Folks were complaining about tickets availability and prices #CWC23

Actually real reason is icc

Doesn't know how to organize big tournaments like cwc

Thursday ko kon opening day rakhta hai

Plus na hi koi opening ceremony

Or bekar sa song – dil jashn jashn bole

Isse acha to ipl ko organise karte hai

— Shinchannn (@insanelybot21) October 5, 2023

Due to less promotion no hype among people,Only India matches will be full crowd and all other matches will have less crowds only

— ஜோக்கர் பாபு (@Udhaytweets) October 5, 2023

Thats the reason
First game should be host vs defending champions

— Vishal Mody🇮🇳 (@modyvishal11) October 5, 2023

Keep it on weekday afternoon! And a non India starter… and you expect people will come!! 😂😂😂
