Sarfaraz Khan, the Mumbai Ranji team cricketer, has earned his first-ever selection in the Indian Test squad for the upcoming series against England.
Sarfaraz Khan has been included in the Indian squad for the second Test as a replacement for the injured Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul, who are both sidelined due to injury. Jadeja sustained a hamstring injury during the fourth day of the first Test in Hyderabad, while Rahul complained of right quadriceps pain, leading to their exclusion. With Virat Kohli already on a personal leave for the first two Tests, the BCCI has decided to bring in Sarfaraz Khan, Sourabh Kumar, and Washington Sundar to bolster the squad.
Despite facing challenges in securing a spot in the Indian Test squad, Sarfaraz Khan’s consistent performances in domestic cricket couldn’t be ignored. His recent outstanding displays, including scores of 161, 4, and 55 against England Lions in the unofficial Tests in Ahmedabad, caught the selectors’ attention, earning him a well-deserved maiden call-up to the Indian Test team.
Since Sarfaraz joined the squad, a heartfelt video message from his father, Naushad Khan, has been making waves across social media.
In the video, Sarfaraz’s father said: “You all know that Sarfaraz got his maiden Test call-up today. I want to thank everyone, especially Mumbai Cricket Association where he grew up. Also, the National Cricket Academy (NCA) where he got experience, BCCI and the selectors for trusting in him, and all his fans who prayed for him and supported him,”
“We all hope that he always plays well for the country and contributes to the team’s win,” said Naushad Khan, who has been with Sarfaraz at every step of his cricketing journey so far,” he further said.
After years of delivering consistent performances in the domestic circuit, Sarfaraz has finally earned his spot in the national team. Despite setbacks in the past, he never lost his shine on the field, displaying his cricketing skills across multiple seasons of the Ranji Trophy. With a remarkable first-class record, he has amassed 3912 runs in 45 matches at an impressive average of 69.85. Sarfaraz has truly become a symbol of determination for budding cricketers.
