According to a Cricbuzz report, while the standard recovery time for a hamstring injury is four to five weeks, insiders from the Indian cricket team suggest that Jadeja might be given an extended rest. A noteworthy comeback could be on the cards if he manages to regain fitness in time for the fourth Test in Ranchi.

Jadeja commenced his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru on January 30, keeping fans updated on his progress. However, recent indications hint at a prolonged recovery period beyond initial expectations.

In a parallel scenario, Mohammed Shami, who is in London currently, has been sidelined from the Test series against England due to an ankle injury. While details about Shami’s ankle surgery remain unclear, it is confirmed that he will miss the entire Test series. Uncertainty looms over his participation in the Indian Premier League 2024 as well.

Ravindra Jadeja showcased his all-round brilliance in the first Test against England, contributing significantly with both bat and ball. Displaying his prowess, he notched up an impressive 87 runs in the first innings and also secured three crucial wickets. On the flip side, Mohammed Shami, a standout performer in the ODI World Cup 2023 and a consistent force in the longer format, had to sit out the South African tour due to fitness concerns and was later ruled out of the England series.

Amidst the surge in injuries, there’s a glimmer of positive news for India as batsman KL Rahul is expected to regain fitness for the third Test. The 31-year-old, who experienced right quadriceps pain in the opening game, was wisely rested for the second Test as a precautionary measure. With the extended gap between the second and third Tests, Rahul is anticipated to be back in action, providing a boost to the team’s batting lineup.

In the England camp, there are alterations to the playing XI that participated in the Hyderabad Test match, revealed a day prior to the second Test. Off-spinner Shoaib Bashir is poised to make his debut, stepping in for the injured Jack Leach, who is sidelined with a knee injury. Additionally, seasoned seamer James Anderson has been included in the XI, taking the place of Mark Wood.
