Team India fast bowler Umesh Yadav expresses his disappointment through his Instagram story after not getting selected for the England series.
Umesh Yadav, the Indian fast bowler, has forged an impressive Test cricket career since stepping onto the scene in 2011. Renowned for his sheer pace and knack for generating bounce, Yadav has proven to be a crucial asset for the Indian team. While he has faced occasional ups and downs, his talent has shone through in matches played on both home and foreign soils. Notably, Yadav has showcased his mastery of reverse swing in home conditions, although his performances away from home have faced some challenges.
India and England are currently playing a five-match Test series. The BCCI recently released the squad for the last three matches. The governing body handed a maiden call-up to Akash Deep whereas, Jasprit Bumrah, Mukesh Kumar, and Mohammed Siraj retained their spots.
In a twist on the cricket story, Umesh Yadav, an experienced Indian fast bowler, wrote about his feelings on social media after being left out of the team for the last three games.
Yadav posted a cryptic story on Instagram after the team news. The message seemed to say that books may be collecting dust, but their stories are far from over.
His Instagram story read: “Kitaabon par dhool jamne se, kahaaniyan khatm nahi hoti,” (Stories don’t end just because dust settles on books).
Umesh Yadav, despite putting up stellar performances in the Ranji Trophy, faced disappointment as the selectors overlooked him. The pace bowler’s last appearance for India was in the ICC World Test Championship final against Australia in 2023, where he didn’t have a great outing.
Post the ICC World Test Championship, both Umesh Yadav and Cheteshwar Pujara were dropped from the team, following India’s loss. The emergence of young talents like Mukesh Kumar and Akash Deep has made the competition fierce, making it challenging for Umesh Yadav to secure a comeback.
At 36 years old, Yadav has been a significant asset to India’s bowling department, boasting 170 wickets in 57 Tests at an average of 30.95. Particularly noteworthy is his performance during the Virat Kohli-Ravi Shastri era, where he claimed 101 wickets in 32 home Tests at an impressive average of 25.88, including a best figure of 6/88.
Umesh Yadav’s impact is not confined to Test cricket; he has also contributed in ODIs and T20Is with 106 and 12 wickets, respectively, in 75 ODIs and nine T20Is. Despite his experience and consistent track record, the seasoned speedster found himself excluded from the Test squad, leading to an emotional expression on his Instagram post.
