England veteran pacer Stuart Broad achieved a major milestone during the fourth ongoing Ashes Test in Manchester. He joined the Elite list of bowlers to pick 600 Test wickets, he achieved this milestone by dismissing Travis Head on the first day of the Fourth Ashes Test. He also surpassed Ian Botham as the England bowler with the most wickets against Australia. Stuart Broad’s total wickets against Australia have risen to 149 which is by far, the most wickets by any England player.

Before this match, Broad had 598 wickets to his name. He got his early breakthrough and his 599th wicket in the form of Usman Khawaja with a magnificent delivery. The England bowlers were bowling brilliantly throughout the match and never made the Aussies take control of the game at any given point of time. The England bowlers kept picking wickets with David Warner, Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith getting starts but not able to convert them into big scores.

Broad picked the wicket of Travis Head soon after the tea break with a sharp catch by Zak Crawley to join the list of elite list of bowlers to grab 600 wickets in the longer format.

It was a super bowling effort from England’s side. The pitch was really good and had a good piece of seam movement to offer where Australian batters were seen in discomfort to face their bowlers. It was a remarkable performance from the England bowlers to restrict Australia under 299-8 on the first day.

Stuart Broad’s Stats in Test Cricket

The duo of Anderson and Broad has been the backbone for England’s bowling attack for a long time now, especially Stuart Broad. He made his Test debut on 9th December 2007 at SSC, Colombo versus Sri Lanka. His special ability to perform in England’s conditions is remarkable where he can bowl a brilliant spell in a match and also can put a batsman under pressure. Those unplayable deliveries and brilliant seam movement from this bowler made him a quality bowler and now, he has joined the club of 600 wicket-takers in red-ball cricket.

Broad played a total of 166 Test matches so far (306 innings) with 600 wickets at an economy of 2.98 runs per over. He picked his career-best figures of 8/15 during the 4th Ashes Test match at Nottingham, Trent Bridge on 6th August 2015. He was at his lethal best with 9 wickets in the match and was awarded the player of the match. Broad became the 2nd pacer after James Anderson to pick 600 Test wickets.

Stuart Broad’s total wickets includes 167 which he has picked since the start of 2019, the highest for any bowler in this period. Broad, who played 42 Test matches in this period, had struck once every 48 balls and averaged less than 24. 62

17 Number of times David Warner has got out to Broad in Test cricket, the joint-third most dismissals for a batter against a bowler in the format. Broad had Warner’s wicket in both innings of a Test on four occasions, the joint-most times any bowler had dismissed a particular batter twice in a Test.
