Luke Williams, who guided the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) championship-winning team, has been selected as the fresh head coach for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Women’s Premier League (WPL).
Luke Williams is set to take over from Ben Sawyer as the new leader of the franchise. Under Sawyer’s guidance, the team secured a fourth-place finish in the inaugural WPL season, managing to win just two out of their eight league matches.
At 43 years old, Luke Williams boasts a background in first-class cricket, having played for South Australia between 2000 and 2005. During his four-year tenure as the head coach of the Adelaide Strikers, he steered the team to their first Women’s Big Bash League victory in the 2022-2023 season, following two consecutive runner-up positions.
Luke was closely associated with the Southern Brave as their assistant coach, where he worked alongside head coach Charlotte Edwards and led the team to their historic Women’s Hundred Championship win this year.
His coaching experience also extends to the Women’s National Cricket League (50 overs) with the South Australian Scorpions, where he guided the team to the runner-up position on two separate occasions. Additionally, he served as the head coach of the Australia A side during their tour of England earlier this year.

RCB has undergone its third coaching staff adjustment. They brought in Andy Flower, formerly the coach of Lucknow Super Giants last season, to take over as the men’s head coach, replacing Sanjay Bangar. This change came after RCB failed to secure a spot in the IPL 2023 playoffs.
