Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has voiced his dissatisfaction regarding the exclusion of spinner Yuzvendra Chahal from the upcoming ODI series against Australia. He expressed bewilderment at why the talented 33-year-old spinner hasn’t been provided an opportunity to play.

Harbhajan Singh has voiced concerns regarding the absence of Yuzvendra Chahal from India's Asia Cup 2023 lineup.

As the 2023 ODI World Cup approaches, the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has selected its squad for the much-anticipated competition. Rohit Sharma will captain the Indian side, which has a diversity of cricketing superstars. However, the surprise absence of star spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has been a matter of debate in recent weeks.

Chahal has been a crucial performer for Team India in white-ball cricket and has consistently thrived in franchise cricket. Despite this, he was not selected for India’s World Cup roster. Speaking on this subject, former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh took the spotlight and aired his thoughts on Chahal’s exclusion. Harbhajan said that Chahal’s removal appears to have a mysterious cause behind it, potentially pointing at a rupture or dispute with someone, as there don’t seem to be any obvious explanations for leaving him out of the squad.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Harbhajan stated: “Yuzvendra Chahal should have been here. He has not been given an opportunity. It is beyond my understanding. Either he has fought with someone or he has said something to someone, I don’t know. If we talk only about skill, his name should have been there in this team because a lot of Team India players are resting.”

Additionally, Harbhajan Singh shared his thoughts on the imminent three-match ODI series pitting India against Australia. Harbhajan expressed his view that while Australia recently faced South Africa, India will enter the series fresh from their victory in the Asia Cup. Harbhajan emphasized the need for Team India to be cautious, particularly when it comes to Australia’s batting prowess, given their abundance of talented batsmen.
“Australia were playing against South Africa and India were playing against Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup. Australia are a different team. You will have to be at your best to beat Australia because they have decent batting till No. 7 or No. 8 and they have solid hitters,” Harbhajan Singh further said.
