Adam Gilchrist, the esteemed former Australian cricketer, recently addressed a situation where a Pakistani fan was spreading false information about him.

During the recent journey of the Pakistan cricket team to Australia, where they faced a defeat in all three Test matches, a comment attributed to Australian cricket icon Adam Gilchrist circulated widely on social media. The comment claimed that Gilchrist had dubbed the Pakistani team as the worst Asian team in Australian conditions. Many fans reposted this comment, stressing the harsh feeling reportedly voiced by the former Australian great towards the Pakistani side. However, Gilchrist has come forward to emphasize that he never made such a statement.
The deception began from a Pakistani Facebook group, which spread a comment that claimed to be from Gilchrist, condemning the Pakistan team for their performance in the Test series in Australia.
Despite Pakistan’s remarkable efforts and a better performance compared to previous teams in Australia this century, they lost the Test series 3-0. The series concluded with a fitting farewell for David Warner from Test cricket.
A Pakistani Facebook page ran a quote, purportedly from Adam Gilchrist saying that Pakistan is the “Worst Asian team in Australian conditions”.
Upon hearing about the news, Gilchrist promptly took to Twitter to set things right. He didn’t hesitate to compliment the Pakistan players for their great performance, particularly stressing their resilience in the final two Tests.
Adam Gilchrist tweeted: “I never said this. Absolutely fake, made up quotes. Pakistan were excellent at times this summer, against a World Champion Aust team and very nearly pinched a Test or two. #fakenews #ignore”
Following the MCG Test, Gilchrist took to Twitter to applaud Pakistan’s commendable performance throughout the series. He highlighted their resilience, especially noting instances where they fought back, even securing a first-innings lead in Sydney. Gilchrist specifically praised Shan Masood for his outstanding leadership both on the field and off it.
As of now, Pakistan is engaged in a 5-match T20I series against New Zealand.
