Ishan Kishan who has been in tremendous form in this West Indies tour, was awarded the “Player of the Series” for his brilliant successive fifties in the 3-match ODI series against the hosts.
India’s dynamic left-hand opener, Ishan Kishan is in sensational form currently, impressively scoring three consecutive half-centuries in all three ODIs against West Indies. His outstanding performances played a crucial role in India’s series victory with a 2-1 scoreline, and it has certainly strengthened his case for inclusion in India’s squad for the upcoming major tournaments.
In the first ODI, even when other batters were struggling, Ishan Kishan showcased his talent by scoring a brisk 52 runs off just 46 deliveries. In the decisive third match, he set the tone for the game with a remarkable knock of 77 runs off 64 deliveries. His consistent brilliance throughout the series earned him the well-deserved title of Player of the Series.
Despite his impressive displays, former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer believes that the 25-year-old still has room for improvement to further elevate his game. Jaffer pointed out the examples of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, emphasizing the importance of converting good starts into substantial hundreds.
By learning this art of converting starts into big scores, Ishan Kishan can take his batting to the next level and establish himself as a more formidable force in international cricket.
“Getting three fifties in three games, you would say that he is the third opener in line, and obviously the second wicket-keeper also going forward. He did his chances no harm. But he needs to learn to convert those starts into big hundreds. That’s what the Indian batters need to learn from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli,” Jaffer told ESPNcricinfo.
I should have scored some more runs: Ishan Kishan
After the third ODI, Ishan Kishan himself opened up and stated that he should have been cautious in order to play long innings. He further added more to his words by saying that he has learned this in this series and will be trying his best to convert his starts from the upcoming ones.
“Not so happy with the finishing that I gave. I was supposed to score big after being set. That’s what my seniors told me, I should’ve stayed in and scored big. That’s what I’ll try next time, I’ll get set in the middle and score big. It’s important at this level to get set. It’s important to forget the last game and start from 0,” Ishan Kishan said in the post-match presentation.
