Tilak shared how his impressive performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) played a pivotal role in securing a spot on the national team. Notably, Tilak’s batting prowess was on full display as he crafted his maiden T20I half-century, despite being on the team that didn’t come out on top.

In the initial innings, Tilak collaborated effectively with Ishan Kishan, accumulating a crucial partnership of 42 runs. He himself scored 51 runs off 41 balls, which included five boundaries and a well-timed maximum. It’s noteworthy that the left-handed batsman showcased his talent during the IPL 2023 season, amassing 343 runs in 11 matches, boasting an impressive average of 42.88.

Tilak recognized the instrumental role of the lucrative T20 league in his journey, propelling him to the forefront and earning him a spot in the Indian team. Moreover, he attributed part of his confidence in T20 batting to the guidance of head coach Rahul Dravid and Hardik Pandya. Their support and mentoring contributed significantly to his growth in the shortest format of the game.

“Everyone knows that the two IPL seasons were my turning point. I am here because of my performances there. So, I am just playing with that confidence, and going forward I want to continue what I’ve been doing,” Tilak was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

“I have been with Rahul (Dravid) sir since the Under-19 World Cup. He always says to follow your basics and spend as much time in the 22 yards between the wickets. He always says to enjoy your game as much as you can. When I was talking to Hardik (Pandya) bhai also, he says the same thing, that you’ve done well in IPL and domestic, so this is the same thing you should do in international cricket. Follow your basics and enjoy your game,” he added.

Discussing the game, the Indian cricket team faced another defeat against the West Indies, with Nicholas Pooran’s aggressive 67 off 40 balls making a decisive impact. As a result, the home team now holds a 2-0 lead and aims to solidify their dominance in the upcoming third T20I scheduled for Tuesday, August 8th. The contest will unfold at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. Team India will look further to save themselves from a series defeat.

Sri Lanka secured a 32-run win against India in the second ODI at R. Premadasa Stadium, gaining a 1-0 advantage in the three-match series. In a disappointing turn of events, the Indian cricket team, captained by Rohit Sharma, faced their first loss of the Sri Lanka series on Sunday. The hosts secured a comfortable 32-run victory at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. After the match, Rohit Sharma didn't hold back in his critique, acknowledging that his team failed to play up to standard during the encounter. Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first, setting India a target of 241 runs. The Men in Blue got off to a promising start, but their chase unraveled significantly, largely due to an outstanding bowling display by Sri Lankan leg-spinner Jeffrey Vandersay. Vandersay's career-best figures of 6/33 played a pivotal role in dismantling India's batting lineup. Rohit Sharma's brisk 64 off 44 balls initially put India in a strong position. However, his dismissal, attempting a reverse sweep that was brilliantly caught by Pathum Nissanka off Vandersay's bowling, signaled the beginning of India's downfall. When asked about his shot selection during the post-match presentation, the 37-year-old defended his aggressive approach. Speaking to the presenters after the match, Rohit said, “We didn't play good cricket, that's why we lost the game. We do understand the nature of this surface and the nature of how the game is going to go as well. It gets really, really tough in the middle overs. So you have to try and capitalize in the powerplay and get as many runs as possible. That's what both openers were trying to do. But we were just not good enough today.” “The reason I got 65 runs is because of the way I batted. When I bat like that, there is bound to be risk taking, and I'm not afraid to do that. Whenever you get out, whether you score 100, 50 or zero, you feel disappointed if you don't get across the line. But that won't change my intent,” the Indian skipper further added. In challenging spin-friendly conditions in Colombo on Sunday, India faced a target of 241 runs. Despite valiant efforts from captain Rohit Sharma and middle-order batsman Axar, the rest of the Indian lineup struggled. As a result, the team fell short, losing the match by 32 runs.
