Tilak Varma has impressed with his performances in the ongoing T20I series against West Indies. He debuted for India in the first T20I match of the series against West Indies and impressed everyone around the country.
Young Indian talent Tilak Varma has certainly caught the cricket world’s attention with his recent displays. At just 20 years old, he showcased his skills for Mumbai Indians during the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). His introduction to international cricket against the West Indies has also been impressive.
Making his debut in the ongoing T20I series against the West Indies, Varma has emerged as one of the standout performers for the Indian team. His total of 139 runs across three T20Is at an average of 69.5 reflects his consistency. This promising start suggests he could become a regular member of the Indian squad in the shortest format.
Former Indian selector MSK Prasad was notably impressed by Varma’s T20I performances. He even ventured to suggest that the young cricketer might play a significant role in the ODI setup for Team India in the future. Prasad also highlighted Varma’s strong track record, which could be a crucial factor in his rise.
MSK Prasad backs Tilak Varma for the ODI World Cup 2023:
“Look at his List A record for Hyderabad. He has played 25 List A games and has an average of 55 plus. Five hundreds and five half-centuries. It means at least 50 per cent times he is converting fifties into hundreds. A strike rate of 100 plus,” MSK Prasad was quoted as saying by PTI.
“I think it won’t be a bad idea provided Shreyas (Iyer) can’t make it. Only then you can think of Varma. But I am sure he will be a white ball regular for India across formats going forward,” Prasad concluded.
