Team India batter Shreyas Iyer is gearing up to play for Mumbai in the semi-final of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024.
According to information reported in the Times of India (TOI), it appears that Iyer has successfully recovered from a back spasm and is set to participate in the match against Tamil Nadu.
Scheduled for March 2nd at the Mumbai Cricket Association’s BKC ground, the Ranji Trophy semifinal between Mumbai and Tamil Nadu is anticipated to be a high-pressure encounter. The return of Shreyas Iyer is expected to provide a significant boost to the home team in this crucial game.
Shreyas Iyer had been part of the Indian squad for the initial two Tests against England, where his contributions with the bat were relatively modest. Scoring 35, 13, 27, and 29 in the first two Tests at Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam, he was subsequently excluded from the squad for the remaining three matches. Following the second game, Iyer had complained of back pain, leading to speculation about his exclusion from the team.
It was later revealed that the BCCI had advised Shreyas Iyer to participate in the Ranji Trophy, but he cited back pain as the reason for his unavailability. Now, with Mumbai gearing up for the semi-final and aiming for another domestic cricket title, the Indian batsman has assured the state board of his fitness and confirmed his participation in the upcoming match.
“Yes, lyer has confirmed to the Mumbai Cricket Association that he is fit now and available for Mumbai’s semi-final match,” a source mentioned to Times of India.
