During his time with the club this summer, Prithvi Shaw created quite a buzz right from the start. He left a lasting impression by delivering an exceptional performance, notably smashing an astonishing 244 off just 153 balls against Somerset. Unfortunately, his stay was curtailed abruptly due to a knee injury.

“I’m so excited to be heading back to Northamptonshire next summer. Even though it was over quickly I really enjoyed my time there, It’s a great club to be a part of and I felt so welcome by everyone immediately. I can’t wait to get back over,” said Shaw in a statement issued by the club.

Even though there was great anticipation from various other regions, Shaw noted that he always leaned towards coming back to Northamptonshire for another year. The plan is for him to be ready for both the County Championship and the One Day Cup. He’s slated to join the team starting from June 2024 till the season closes.

“My goal is always to help win games for the team and it was so disappointing to get injured and have to leave early this time. I had a few teams contacting me after the tournament wanting to talk about playing for them next year, but I feel like I still have more to achieve with Northamptonshire. They gave me the opportunity this year and I’m very happy to be coming back,” Shaw further added.

Shaw, at the age of 23, had his time on the field shortened due to a knee injury. However, during his brief stint, he showcased remarkable performance, maintaining an average of 143 across four matches. In these games, he scored a total of 429 runs at an impressive strike rate of 152. Notably, his record-breaking score of 244 stands as the sixth-highest individual tally in the history of List A matches.

Coach John Sadler is eagerly anticipating the return of Shaw to the team’s locker room. Shaw’s most recent international game was in 2021, and the coach is excited to have him back on board.

“Prithvi is a phenomenal talent and what he delivered for us in such a short space of time was incredible. He was utterly disappointed not to stay longer due to his injury as he wanted to play some red-ball cricket, so the chance for him to do this next year is really exciting for us all,” he said.
