In praising Dhurv Jurel’s remarkable innings during the ongoing Test against England in Ranchi, former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag subtly took a dig at Safaraz Khan.

Dhruv Jurel emerged as a pivotal force behind India’s remarkable turnaround in the ongoing Test in Ranchi. Despite a challenging situation where India found themselves at 177/7 in response to England’s 353, Jurel played a crucial role in steering his team back into contention.

When India seemed on the verge of a collapse, Dhruv Jurel, along with Kuldeep Yadav, stood firm on Day 2, ensuring that the hosts didn’t lose any more wickets. Displaying impressive grit and composure, the keeper-batter not only defended well but also unleashed some impactful shots that kept England under pressure and facilitated India’s quick scoring.

In a standout performance, Dhruv Jurel secured his maiden half-century in the second Test for India. Partnering with Kuldeep Yadav for a solid 76-run partnership, he showcased his prowess by confidently taking the aerial route and playing substantial hits. Although deserving of a century, Jurel fell agonizingly short, getting dismissed for 90 runs.

His contribution did not go unnoticed, with Virender Sehwag expressing admiration for Dhruv Jurel’s understated yet impactful role, highlighting his performance without the need for media hype or drama. In essence, Jurel’s resilience and effective batting rescued India from a precarious situation, leaving a lasting impression on the game.

Virender Sehwag wrote: “No media hype, no emotional drama, just some outstanding skills and great temparement in a very difficult situation. Very Well done Dhruv Jurel. Best wishes.”

When Sarfaraz Khan marked his debut for India alongside Dhruv Jurel in Rajkot, it was Sarfaraz Khan who grabbed the spotlight, overshadowing the keeper-batter. However, Sehwag faced significant backlash from fans who criticized him for seemingly mocking Sarfaraz while praising Dhruv.

Responding to the criticism, the former Indian skipper took to Twitter once again to clarify his comments. He emphasized that his intention was not to demean or degrade anyone but rather to highlight the importance of recognizing and celebrating the performances of all players. According to Sehwag, every player who delivers on the field deserves to be appreciated and hyped up. Explaining his point, he said: “Not to degrade or demean anyone, but hype should be on performance and be equal. Some guys have bowled brilliantly, some have batted exceptionally but haven’t got the hype they deserve. Akash Deep was outstanding here, Yashasvi has been brilliant through the series and so was Sarfaraz at Rajkot and Dhruv Jurel in all his opportunities. Hype sabko karo.”
