The ex-captain of Delhi’s cricket team has stood up to get a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) in order to participate in other local tournaments. This decision comes after a challenging performance by the 29-year-old in the Ranji Trophy 2022–23 season, which resulted in his being sidelined from the team’s match against Tamil Nadu.

In addition, Nitish Rana opted out of Delhi’s match versus Hyderabad. Rana’s domestic performance has been below par for quite some time now. As a result, he was ousted from his captaincy role, and Yash Dhull was picked as the new captain by the Delhi team administration. Amid concerns about Rana’s likely relocation to Uttar Pradesh, an official provided insight into the subject.

“Yes, Nitish Rana is likely to come to UP for the domestic season. Formalities are being worked out, and an official statement will be issued soon. That’s all I can say,” a UPCA official told Cricketnext.

Talking about the same, Nitish Rana also took to the social media platform to announce this news of getting into UP from next season, he wrote:

“I would like to express my deepest gratitude for the opportunities, guidance, and support which DDCA has provided me over the years. As I move on to new horizons, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey I had while captaining Delhi Cricket and express my sincere appreciation,” Rana wrote on his post.

“I would also like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Rohan Jaitley for his support and cooperation during my time with DDCA. However, I think it’s time to turn the page and embark on a new chapter in my career. I have come to this decision with a lot of thought and I’m happy to announce that I’ll be joining UPCA from the upcoming domestic season,” the KKR captain confirmed.

Moreover, despite the news of Nitish Rana’s application for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the DDCA, allowing him to participate in domestic events for other teams, an official came up and spoke about it. The official highlighted that it’s detrimental to retain a player against their will. They also shared the perspective that pushing on keeping Rana with the Delhi team despite his desire to depart might potentially have detrimental implications on the team’s morale within the dressing room.

“There was no point forcing a player to stay back. Once a player has made up his mind, there is very little we can do. We can’t give assurances or other things or talk about selection matters. It also affects the dressing room atmosphere when we force a player to stay back. So it’s in the interest of everyone, I would say,” the official said.

Sri Lanka secured a 32-run win against India in the second ODI at R. Premadasa Stadium, gaining a 1-0 advantage in the three-match series. In a disappointing turn of events, the Indian cricket team, captained by Rohit Sharma, faced their first loss of the Sri Lanka series on Sunday. The hosts secured a comfortable 32-run victory at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. After the match, Rohit Sharma didn't hold back in his critique, acknowledging that his team failed to play up to standard during the encounter. Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first, setting India a target of 241 runs. The Men in Blue got off to a promising start, but their chase unraveled significantly, largely due to an outstanding bowling display by Sri Lankan leg-spinner Jeffrey Vandersay. Vandersay's career-best figures of 6/33 played a pivotal role in dismantling India's batting lineup. Rohit Sharma's brisk 64 off 44 balls initially put India in a strong position. However, his dismissal, attempting a reverse sweep that was brilliantly caught by Pathum Nissanka off Vandersay's bowling, signaled the beginning of India's downfall. When asked about his shot selection during the post-match presentation, the 37-year-old defended his aggressive approach. Speaking to the presenters after the match, Rohit said, “We didn't play good cricket, that's why we lost the game. We do understand the nature of this surface and the nature of how the game is going to go as well. It gets really, really tough in the middle overs. So you have to try and capitalize in the powerplay and get as many runs as possible. That's what both openers were trying to do. But we were just not good enough today.” “The reason I got 65 runs is because of the way I batted. When I bat like that, there is bound to be risk taking, and I'm not afraid to do that. Whenever you get out, whether you score 100, 50 or zero, you feel disappointed if you don't get across the line. But that won't change my intent,” the Indian skipper further added. In challenging spin-friendly conditions in Colombo on Sunday, India faced a target of 241 runs. Despite valiant efforts from captain Rohit Sharma and middle-order batsman Axar, the rest of the Indian lineup struggled. As a result, the team fell short, losing the match by 32 runs.
