During the first Test match against South Africa at Bay Oval, the 29-year-old Jamieson experienced some discomfort. Despite this, he managed to take six wickets in the match. Unfortunately, he had to sit out the second Test in Hamilton due to his injuries, as revealed by scans conducted later.

Last year, Jamieson had to go through back surgery, and now, unfortunately, he’s facing another injury in the same area. Although surgery isn’t necessary this time, he’ll be sidelined for quite a while. Reflecting on this, the fast bowler shared that the recent days have been incredibly tough for him. Despite the difficulties, he’s optimistic about making a robust comeback after overcoming this obstacle.

“The last few days have been some of my most challenging but I am hugely grateful for the support I’ve received from my partner, family, teammates, support staff and medical professionals. I know injuries are part of life as a cricketer and at my age I am hopeful I still have many more playing days ahead of me” Jamieson said in a statement.

Kyle Jamieson has been grappling with back problems for the past two years. His initial injury occurred in June 2022, but he managed to make a comeback during a home series against England. Unfortunately, a recurrence of the injury led to surgery, keeping him sidelined for several months. The Kiwi fast bowler also had to sit out the ICC 2023 World Cup in India due to a back issue. Although he returned to fitness, a recent injury might prevent Kyle Jamieson from returning to the field in 2024.

New Zealand emerged victorious against South Africa in the recent red-ball series, clinching the series 2-0 and reclaiming the top spot in the WTC 2023-25 points table. Australia follows closely in second place with a PCT of 55.0, while India holds the third spot with 52.77 PCT.

The first Test saw the Kiwis dominating with a 281-run victory, followed by a seven-wicket win in the second Test. Kane Williamson showcased exceptional batting skills throughout the series, accumulating a total of 403 runs in the two matches at an impressive average of 134.33. Rachin Ravindra also made a significant contribution, scoring 301 runs in the series. Additionally, South Africa’s David Bedingham showcased his prowess by amassing 268 runs in the two matches.

Sri Lanka secured a 32-run win against India in the second ODI at R. Premadasa Stadium, gaining a 1-0 advantage in the three-match series. In a disappointing turn of events, the Indian cricket team, captained by Rohit Sharma, faced their first loss of the Sri Lanka series on Sunday. The hosts secured a comfortable 32-run victory at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. After the match, Rohit Sharma didn't hold back in his critique, acknowledging that his team failed to play up to standard during the encounter. Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first, setting India a target of 241 runs. The Men in Blue got off to a promising start, but their chase unraveled significantly, largely due to an outstanding bowling display by Sri Lankan leg-spinner Jeffrey Vandersay. Vandersay's career-best figures of 6/33 played a pivotal role in dismantling India's batting lineup. Rohit Sharma's brisk 64 off 44 balls initially put India in a strong position. However, his dismissal, attempting a reverse sweep that was brilliantly caught by Pathum Nissanka off Vandersay's bowling, signaled the beginning of India's downfall. When asked about his shot selection during the post-match presentation, the 37-year-old defended his aggressive approach. Speaking to the presenters after the match, Rohit said, “We didn't play good cricket, that's why we lost the game. We do understand the nature of this surface and the nature of how the game is going to go as well. It gets really, really tough in the middle overs. So you have to try and capitalize in the powerplay and get as many runs as possible. That's what both openers were trying to do. But we were just not good enough today.” “The reason I got 65 runs is because of the way I batted. When I bat like that, there is bound to be risk taking, and I'm not afraid to do that. Whenever you get out, whether you score 100, 50 or zero, you feel disappointed if you don't get across the line. But that won't change my intent,” the Indian skipper further added. In challenging spin-friendly conditions in Colombo on Sunday, India faced a target of 241 runs. Despite valiant efforts from captain Rohit Sharma and middle-order batsman Axar, the rest of the Indian lineup struggled. As a result, the team fell short, losing the match by 32 runs.
