It’s been more than two months since Ishan Kishan, the left-handed batsman and wicketkeeper-batsman, stepped onto the field.

Ishan Kishan took a break from cricket due to mental fatigue, which sparked public discussion when he was spotted enjoying time in Dubai during his hiatus. Despite the scrutiny, Kishan responded by sharing images of himself meditating, addressing the criticism.

As KS Bharat faces challenges with the bat in the initial two Tests against England and the backup wicketkeeper, the yet-to-be-capped Dhruv Jurel, raises uncertainties, fans, and media are naturally curious about the whereabouts of Ishan Kishan.

Now, coach Rahul Dravid has emphasized the significance of Kishan getting back into the game for his chances of being selected. Dravid mentioned that the selection committee has been in touch with the young cricketer, suggesting that Kishan’s return to action could play a crucial role in shaping his future with the national team.

Speaking in the post-match press conference in Vizag, as quoted by Wisden India, Rahul Dravid said, “There’s a way back for everyone. We don’t rule out anybody for anything. Ishan requested a break, and we were happy to give him a break. Whenever he is ready, he needs to play some cricket and come back. The choice is his,”

Dravid has affirmed that there’s ongoing communication between the BCCI and the management regarding Ishan Kishan. Importantly, they’re respecting his timeline and not pressuring him to make a return before he feels ready.

“We aren’t forcing him to do anything. We’re in touch with him but he’s not yet started playing, so it’s not something we can consider [having him back]. He decides when he wants to be ready,’’ Dravid said in the press conference.

Despite being included in both the T20I and Test squads against South Africa, the wicket-keeper batter spent the entire T20I series on the bench. Fans of the Mumbai Indians may be hopeful for his return in IPL 2024, especially considering the significance of the impending T20 World Cup right after the league. If he delivers strong performances in the early stages of the IPL, it could potentially open doors for his return to the T20I squad.
