India A started their campaign in Emerging Asia Cup 2023 by defeating UAE A by 8 wickets where Yash Dhull’s brilliant knock led to this comfortable victory. Yash who is just 20 years old is also India’s ICC U-19 World Cup-winning captain who not only lead the Indian team to the title but also hammered 200-plus runs with an average of 76.33 in just four games.

India in their first match against UAE A had won the toss and elected to bowl first. With some nerve-breaking spells from young generation bowlers like Harshit Rana and Nitish Kumar Reddy, both of their figures ended in 4/41 and 2/32 respectively helped India in restricting UAE A to a low-scoring total where their top three of top batters couldn’t even come to touch the double-digit mark.

Chasing the low total in Colombo, India also lost their both openers to a low score and were shaking to even chase down the mediocre target of 176. Then comes the Indian Skipper Yash Dhull and Nikin Josh, skipper played a brilliant knock of 108* from just 84 balls which also is his highest score in List-A Cricket.

Dhull, who arrived at number four, rebuilt the innings with an unbeaten 138-run stand for the third wicket with Nikin Jose (41*). While the latter played cautiously, Dhull found boundaries for fun. He shifted gears even further after crossing the 50-run mark. Both played confidently, talking about the body language and shot selection then both Yash and Nikin were hammering the bowler with no fear and playing some astonishing shots all over the ground. With this brilliant knock from Yash, India managed to chase down this low score in just 26.3 overs.

Yash Dhull: Another Star in Making for Indian Cricket

Yash Dhull who is just 20 years old is playing such knocks for a long time now. From scoring some great knocks in the 2022 ICC U-19 tournament to scoring a maiden Hundred in List-A cricket. He plays for Delhi in domestic cricket He made his debut in the format in November last year. In eight games, the batter has now raced to 299 runs at a 43-plus average. Meanwhile, this was his second fifty-plus score in List-A cricket as he scored 71* against Meghalaya in last year’s Vijay Hazare Trophy. He is making a way to become a star for Indian Cricket but he needs to be consistent about it.

Sri Lanka secured a 32-run win against India in the second ODI at R. Premadasa Stadium, gaining a 1-0 advantage in the three-match series. In a disappointing turn of events, the Indian cricket team, captained by Rohit Sharma, faced their first loss of the Sri Lanka series on Sunday. The hosts secured a comfortable 32-run victory at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. After the match, Rohit Sharma didn't hold back in his critique, acknowledging that his team failed to play up to standard during the encounter. Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first, setting India a target of 241 runs. The Men in Blue got off to a promising start, but their chase unraveled significantly, largely due to an outstanding bowling display by Sri Lankan leg-spinner Jeffrey Vandersay. Vandersay's career-best figures of 6/33 played a pivotal role in dismantling India's batting lineup. Rohit Sharma's brisk 64 off 44 balls initially put India in a strong position. However, his dismissal, attempting a reverse sweep that was brilliantly caught by Pathum Nissanka off Vandersay's bowling, signaled the beginning of India's downfall. When asked about his shot selection during the post-match presentation, the 37-year-old defended his aggressive approach. Speaking to the presenters after the match, Rohit said, “We didn't play good cricket, that's why we lost the game. We do understand the nature of this surface and the nature of how the game is going to go as well. It gets really, really tough in the middle overs. So you have to try and capitalize in the powerplay and get as many runs as possible. That's what both openers were trying to do. But we were just not good enough today.” “The reason I got 65 runs is because of the way I batted. When I bat like that, there is bound to be risk taking, and I'm not afraid to do that. Whenever you get out, whether you score 100, 50 or zero, you feel disappointed if you don't get across the line. But that won't change my intent,” the Indian skipper further added. In challenging spin-friendly conditions in Colombo on Sunday, India faced a target of 241 runs. Despite valiant efforts from captain Rohit Sharma and middle-order batsman Axar, the rest of the Indian lineup struggled. As a result, the team fell short, losing the match by 32 runs.
