The New BCCI chairman of the senior men’s selection committee, Ajit Agarkar has issued a statement regarding the selections of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the T20Is.
Ajit Agarkar is reportedly going to have a talk with both the senior Indian Batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli regarding their future plans in India’s T20I Team.
It is obvious that the BCCI selection committee doesn’t want to see them in the Indian T20I team as we are moving forward to the 2024 T20I World Cup which is scheduled to be played in England in the month of June. BCCI is more confident in showing their trust in Hardik Pandya for the Captaincy role for Indian Team in the white ball format. BCCI has already started keeping an eye on the players who will be a part of the 2024 T20I side for the World Cup. BCCI wants to more focus on a team with youngsters having new and young blood.
Recently, the first selection for the 5-match T20I series against West Indies was made by Ajit Agarkar who has already shown his intentions by not including these two Veteran batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in their T20 squad.
Now, it is to be noted that Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have not played a single T20 match after the last ICC T20I World Cup which happened in October last year in Australia.
The Telegraph India has reported that the BCCI selector will fly to West Indies in the coming weeks to talk with Rohit and Virat, and head coach Rahul Dravid to discuss the way forward for India in white-ball cricket.
“While the pool of players has already been identified for the ODI World Cup in October-November, the chief selector is likely to discuss India’s blueprint for the T20 World Cup next year. More specifically, Agarkar is expected to communicate with the Big Two of Indian cricket, Rohit and Virat Kohli, about the roadmap for the shortest format,” the report in Telegraph India said.
Agarkar has already made his plans to tell these two senior Indian batters to only focus on the ODIs and Tests.
A BCCI source has stated that Agarkar will advise both Rohit and Kohli to forget about T20I cricket and extend their careers in the other two longer formats of cricket.
“The time to bring in young blood in the T20 setup is overdue. They need enough opportunities and exposure before the big event to settle into their roles. Agarkar will make it clear to both Rohit and Kohli that they should concentrate on ODI and Test cricket,” a source told The Telegraph.
