The International Cricket Council (ICC) has imposed a two-year ban on Bangladeshi cricketer Nasir Hossain.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has imposed a two-year ban on Bangladesh all-rounder Nasir Hossain for violating the anti-corruption code during the Abu Dhabi T10 league in the 2020-21 season. The charges were brought against Nasir and seven others associated with the Pune Devils franchise in September 2023. Accepting the three charges against him, the 32-year-old cricketer has been handed a two-year ban, with six months suspended. Nasir will be eligible to resume international cricket on April 7, 2025.
According to the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit, the first charge against Hossain was “He failed to disclose to the Designated Anti-Corruption Official (without unnecessary delay) the receipt of a gift that was offered to him that had a value of over US$750, namely the gift of a new iPhone 12.
The second charge was “He failed to disclose to the Designated Anti-Corruption Official full details of the approach or invitation he received to engage in Corrupt Conduct via the new iPhone 12,’’ said ICC in a statement.
The third charge against Nasir states that “he failed or refused, without compelling justification, to cooperate with the Designated Anti-Corruption Official’s investigation in relation to possible Corrupt Conduct under the Code, including (without limitation) failing to provide accurately and completely any information and/or documentation requested by the Designated Anti-Corruption Official (whether as part of a formal Demand pursuant to Article 4.3 or otherwise) as part of such investigation.”
Hossain has participated in 19 Test matches, 65 ODIs, and 31 T20Is for Bangladesh. Although his most recent international game dates back to January 2018, he remained active in domestic cricket until May 2023. Nasir’s cricket journey includes scoring 1044 runs in Tests, 1281 in ODIs, and 371 in T20Is. Not only that, but he has also contributed with the ball, claiming 24 wickets in ODIs, and eight and seven wickets in Tests and T20Is, respectively. Debuting across all three formats for Bangladesh in 2011, Nasir concluded his international career in January 2018 during an ODI match against Sri Lanka at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.
