Former Team India and CSK batsman Ambati Rayudu has proven to be a key player in the IPL, contributing significantly to the success of both franchises he has been a part of, with multiple title victories under his belt. During a podcast conversation with Ranveer Allahbadia, he delves into the potential scenarios that may unfold if MS Dhoni decides to retire from the IPL.
Rayudu was a part of two of the most successful franchises in the IPL. He kickstarted his IPL journey with Mumbai Indians back in 2010 and wrapped it up with Chennai Super Kings in 2023.
His move from MI to CSK happened during the IPL 2018 season. Alongside his IPL ventures, Rayudu also donned the Indian cricket team jersey, featuring in 55 ODIs and 6 T20Is. Rayudu holds a unique position in the hearts of both CSK and MI fanbases. Offering insights into the fan dynamics, he observed that Mumbai Indians fans prioritize supporting the team before individual players, while the sentiment is reversed among Chennai Super Kings fans.
Interacting in a podcast with Ranveer Allahbadia aka Beerbiceps, Ambati Rayudu was replying to a question on the difference between MI and CSK fans. Rayudu said, “As a player, I would say they support Mumbai Indians rather than one player, or a big player of IPL, they always go for Mumbai Indians. Chennai is slightly different, they are Dhoni’s fans first and then the CSK. If Mahi bhai wasn’t there, I don’t think the stadium would be half-full. They are all my best friends.”
Ravindra Jadeja had, on occasions, subtly expressed his discontent with the fans of Chennai Super Kings. He seemed displeased when the crowd celebrated his dismissal, seemingly more excited about MS Dhoni coming in to bat next. Rumors circulated about a strain in the relationship between the franchise and two seasoned players, attributed to the excessive focus on a single individual. Ambati Rayudu contributed to CSK’s triumphant IPL campaigns in 2018, 2021, and 2023.
Throughout the IPL season, MS Dhoni never fails to receive a thunderous cheers from fans all around the country, a monument to the love and affection he has received. Dhoni, driven by the great love he experienced during IPL 2023, has decided to make a comeback for another season. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings have made substantial releases, parting ways with notable stars like Ben Stokes, Kyle Jamieson, Sisanda Magala, and Dwaine Pretorius ahead of the IPL 2024 auction due to take place on December 19th in Dubai.
