For the second consecutive game, the Delhi Capitals bowlers faced a tough challenge as they struggled to contain the Mumbai Indians’ batting onslaught. This time, it was the Mumbai Indians who posted a formidable total of 235 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Rishabh Pant, the captain of Delhi Capitals, won the toss and elected to field first on a sweltering day at the Wankhede Stadium.

Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan laid a strong foundation for Mumbai with a solid 80-run partnership for the opening wicket before Axar Patel, with his left-arm spin, dismissed both batsmen.

Suryakumar Yadav, making a comeback after missing the initial matches due to injury, survived a fiery yorker from Anrich Nortje on his first ball but couldn’t capitalize, getting out for a duck in the next delivery.

Despite the early setbacks, Mumbai managed to stabilize their innings as Hardik Pandya and Tim David stitched together a crucial 60-run partnership, followed by an explosive cameo from Shepherd, who smashed a blistering 39 off just 10 balls.

In the end, Mumbai Indians posted a daunting total of 234-5, thanks to Shepherd’s late fireworks and David’s contribution of 45 runs.

In response, Delhi Capitals’ Prithvi Shaw played a valiant innings, scoring 66 runs in an attempt to keep his team in the chase after the early dismissal of David Warner.

Shaw found support from Abhishek Porel, who scored a well-crafted 41, as the duo added 88 runs for the second wicket. However, their partnership was broken by Jasprit Bumrah, who dismissed both set batsmen.

Despite a brisk fifty from South Africa’s Stubbs, Delhi Capitals fell short as the asking rate kept mounting. Gerald Coetzee’s three wickets in the final over further dented Delhi’s hopes, ultimately returning with figures of 4-34.

The Mumbai Indians’ fans celebrated their team’s first victory, relieved to see their side bounce back with an impressive performance at their home ground, the Wankhede Stadium.
