Kagiso Rabada, the right-arm pacer, has given South Africa the upper hand on the opening day at Supersport Park in Centurion.
Rabada made excellent use of the morning conditions following the rain delay, putting Indian batters in a tough spot with his pace. He secured an early breakthrough by dismissing Rohit Sharma (5), caught at fine-leg by Nandre Burger.
India faced a setback with the loss of three quick wickets in the initial 10 overs, with Nandre Burger contributing by taking two wickets. Shubman Gill (2) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (17) fell victim to Burger, intensifying India’s woes. The South African pace attack proved challenging for the Indian middle order.
Adding to his achievements, Kagiso Rabada entered a prestigious club by reaching his 500th international wicket in his career.
Kagiso Rabada recently entered the prestigious 500 international wicket club for South African pace bowlers, making him the seventh to achieve this feat. Shardul Thakur, the Indian all-rounder, became Rabada’s 500th victim. This puts Rabada in the esteemed company of Shaun Pollock (823), Dale Steyn (697), Makhaya Ntini (661), Allan Donald (602), Jacques Kallis (572), and Morne Morkel (535).
Rabada has consistently proven himself as a prolific wicket-taker for South Africa across various formats. His tally includes 285 wickets in Test matches, 157 wickets in 101 ODIs, and 58 wickets in 56 T20Is. Notably, Rabada boasts an impressive international cricket strike rate of 35.2. Achieving this milestone took him 218 games, showcasing his sustained excellence in the bowling department.
Following Rohit’s departure, Kagiso Rabada claimed the wicket of Shreyas Iyer. The right-handed batsman, Iyer, contributed 78 runs in a crucial 4th-wicket partnership with Virat Kohli. Shortly after Iyer’s dismissal, Rabada succeeded in getting Virat Kohli out for 38. His next victims were Ravi Ashwin, marking his fourth wicket of the innings, and Shardul Thakur, securing his fifth wicket of the match.
