Sundar’s participation in the team is a precautionary action taken due to worries over Axar Patel’s fitness. Axar sustained a minor injury during the Super Four match against Bangladesh, which might require him to miss the final match.

Sundar is a part of India’s Asian Games squad and is currently in Bengaluru. However, his stint with the Indian cricket team will be limited, as he’s scheduled to rejoin the Asian Games squad following the Asia Cup final.

Washington Sundar is a seasoned player noted for his off-spin bowling and left-handed batting. He last played for India in an ODI match against New Zealand in January this year. Despite regular efforts, he nearly missed out on a position in the provisional 15-man World Cup team.

If Washington Sundar gets the chance to play in the final, his off-spin bowling talents could be essential, especially against Sri Lanka’s left-handed batsman. Colombo’s pitch conditions frequently suit spinners, which adds to the buzz surrounding Sundar’s likely involvement.

Sundar’s inclusion as cover underlines the Indian team’s resolve to do all necessary to win. With the Asia Cup final just around the corner, cricket fans worldwide are anxiously expecting the duel between these two Asian cricketing powerhouses.

After the Asia Cup 2023 final, India is slated to face Australia in a three-match ODI series commencing on September 22. Following that, the highly anticipated ODI World Cup 2023 is planned to begin on October 5, with the opening match between the finalists of the last edition, England and New Zealand.
